Why SUMA exists
I grew up with sauna the way most Finns do: a wood-fired kiuas, dark water, a Saturday evening. Nobody called it wellness. It was where the week stopped.
In Rovaniemi I watched Lapland become a schedule — a safari at two, the lights at nine, sauna squeezed somewhere in between. The sauna I knew asked for the whole evening, and gave it back.
On the Kemijoki, floating timber once jammed and the river paused to gather its force. That jam is called suma. We took the name and built a place that does the same: fire, water and silence, an evening that stops here before moving on — shared with anyone who comes north to find it.
